February is Black History Month — and we’re celebrating by getting to know a few of the original members of the Runners of Color Council (ROCC)!

In 2020, we took a public stand against racism and committed to standing with the Black community to create actionable, meaningful, and lasting change. Since then, we’ve taken important steps to make our platform better for everyone, including the launch of the very first volunteer-led Runner council.

Keep reading to learn more about the amazing Runners who have stepped up to share their experiences and help us make Favor more equitable and inclusive for all.

Jordan Norris, ROCC liaison (Austin)

One word that comes to mind when I think of the mission of the Runners of Color Council is “acknowledge.”

Acknowledge what is going on during these unprecedented times.

Acknowledge that there are people going through trauma.

Acknowledge that voices need to be heard.

Acknowledge that real action needs to take place.

Favor’s business is rooted in our core values — not only in how team members are treated, but also how Runners, customers, and partners on our platform interact with and treat one another. I feel supported and encouraged to be the best I can be without ever having to compromise my own authenticity. I love that we are also so focused on “Texans helping Texans,” because like our parent company H-E-B always says, “People matter.”

Deborah S. (Marble Falls)

It was very important for me to become a member of the new Runners of Color Council because I truly believe we should all be judged [based on service] and the way we present ourselves through our actions instead of [our] physical appearance. I am dedicated to providing grade-A service not only for [my] customers, but for [other] Runners who are working hard to provide a service in these times of crisis. I want to be able to . . . give true input where needed and be the difference!

Riley B. (Dallas)

I applied [for the ROCC] because it was finally a platform for people of color to discuss [the] struggles and successes that they deal with on a day-to-day basis.

Shannon A. (Baytown)

My goal is to learn as much as I can from others . . . [to better] understand all cultures and broaden my horizons as much as possible. [I enjoy] working [with] and sharing a smile and a little joy with many different people.
